Boot Jacks are an important an interesting piece of early Americana! Beetle / Cricket forms are a very common theme, and the design worked really well to accomplish the task so there were numerous different examples that were produced and marketed. Nearly every one offered here is slightly different from the other, and all have good age and detail. There are examples still being produced today, but in general the casting is cruder and the detailing less defined than those below. From a discerning collector!

This example is legit. It has a great
gold enameled finish,
and good detail. A nice example of a hard to find variation of a
common boot jack.

This example is legit and marked "Toronto,
Canada" with what looks to be an andiron logo
on the bottom. It has great detail in the casting with the extra large

I guess the idea of enameling it was to make
it easier to wash off the inevitable mud that was bound to result from use.
The black and white speckled finish is much like that used on 1930's-40's
