Brass Box Iron
This is a really nicely done brass box iron
with lift gate door. The engraving is well done and covers the top and
edges of the iron. The wooden handle is very well done as well.
The rear door operates as it should but there is a small difference in the "track"
or guide from side to side. This is one of the nicest decorated irons
in this collection.

This too a nice brass box iron with lift gate
door. It is marked with the number 7 on the door. It is very similar
to the one pictured above. Overall this iron is in nice condition.

& Dated Brass Box Iron
This is a nice looking small brass
box iron. It is engraved on the side with the date of 1797 and there is
other etched decoration that is very "folky" and primitive in style, but very
creative with an intricate pattern of zig zag designs. The door at the
rear is missing but a very appealing iron!

This is a nice looking brass ox
tongue design slug iron with a iron strap handle. The gate swings out
of the way, and the slug is present and looks to be original. Very nice!!

Unusual
Iron Swing Gate Box Iron
This early
iron has nicely formed uprights, and a nice design "turn key" lock on the back
door. The interesting part is that typically the door is hinged
on the opposite side---this one would swing open toward rather than away from
the right handed ironer. I can't recall ever seeing another that opened
in this direction. Perhaps specially made for a left-handed person????

looking lift-gate box iron has a finely pointed "nose" and beautifully contoured
uprights and wooden handle grip. Our consignor has indicated that its
origins are Danish.

Iron Box Iron w/ Swing Gate
This is an early primitive European box iron. It is a slab construction
with pins and rivets holding the top to the bottom and sides. Note the
amount of work that went into hand forming the multisided handle supports.
The handle has some worm holes, but is solid and OK. The hook and gate
are nice as well and it has its original slug.
