Rocker / Roller / Machine Fluters
& Combination Flat Irons / Fluting Irons

Good Luck Fluting Iron"Good Luck" Rocker Style Fluting Iron This is a nice looking and hard to find fluter.  It appears it was at one time nickel plated and some early collector thought it would look better with a coat of black paint on it.

6" Crown Plaiter / Iron6" Crown Plaiter / Iron    This is the rare mini size Crown Plaiter.  The more typical version that is seen is 10".  Neither are common.  Plaiting was a thing done by people with too much time on their hands, or with enough money to hire somebody else to perform the task for them.  These devices were used to put plaits, or small folds, in fabric such as drapery tops, bed surrounds, or the bottom pieces on couches and chairs that keep dirt from getting under there and give the cat a place to hide.

My feeling is that if more people still plated and pleated the world would be a different place today.  Whether for the better or worse is open to debate.   I think the passing of this task was one of the primary reasons that the women's lib movement was able to catch on. They simply had to much spare time on their hands when they stopped doing chores like this so they started thinking about things like voting.

The overall condition is nice.  There are no cracks or breaks.   The counter weight and slugs you would heat are missing. The indexing pins are still there.

Meeker's Pateneted-Antiques / Antique SadIron SalesAcme Combination Charcoal / Fluting Iron   This is a very nice condition iron.  It is called the Acme Carbon, and was patented in 1910.  The end of the era I would imagine, burning coal or charcoal.  By 1910 clean and efficient electric was on the verge of not only putting this idea to bed, but all of the other "cutting edge" gas fired irons that were on the market at the time as well.  Not to mention that by this time fluted fashions were going out of style.  Very nice!!
