Vintage Wire & Wood Clothes Hangers
In the days when hangers were a luxury, and hotels and trains provided a place to sleep but not necessarily a means to hang your clothes up, a hanger or two was a necessary part of a well-packed traveler's suitcase. American inventors quickly saw the market was ripe for a "better mousetrap", creating literally hundreds of different hanger designs. Some hangers were simple, others quite complex, and some were granted patents. There were folders, sliders, hinged varieties, expanding ones, hangers with clothespins or clips, others that incorporated a clothes brush or a shoe horn, those that advertised a product or business, pocket-sized dainty models, and large graphic twisted wire versions. Here's a sampling of the seemingly endless variety, along with my current offerings of antique clothespins.
Wireware
Hanger with Great Form This one shows great imagination! It could have been bent this way

referred to as the Wizard hanger---this example is marked "Neustadts", a men's
clothing store I would guess.

garment, or slide them all the way out to extend the width of the hanger by an
inch or two. Folds up for compact storage when not in use.

Squeeze-to-Hang
Wireware Hanger This hanger is one I hadn't seen before.
I was told it was used when traveling on railroad cars but I imagine it would
work in hotels too. The idea was that it didn't need to have a hook to
hang it with because all you had to do was squeeze the two loops together to
open up the center portion enough to get it around the clothes bar. I have
two of these available
