Special Purpose Antique Sad Irons
Hatters Irons & More
This is a very nice example of a hard to find hatters iron. Like many aspects of life business etc, hatters had specially designed and shaped irons for their profession even though in the end the desired result was the same. In general the main difference is they are round front, and very heavy. A nice example.

Round Bottom Polishing Hatters Iron This iron is similar to the McCoy iron shown further down on this page, but it is unmarked and slightly smaller in size. It has the typical basic shape and design that hatters irons usually have but it has a very unusual shaped bottom to make it suitable to use both going left or right around the edge of the hat with a round bottom with peak in the middle. Different!

There are several surfaces that the user could utilize for finishing off specific areas. Look at the additional two pictures to see the unique shapes on the bottom of this iron for this. Different!

1130These glove forms are extremely graphic and almost cross the line into folk art. These would have been used in a glove factory and were clamped onto the edge of the work table and steam heated. The name they are marked with appears to be Italian, which makes sense if you think of fine Italian leathers, but they are also marked “Pat Apld For” so perhaps they were used in a US glove-making factory. This Egg Iron is for ironing the "puff" or "poof" areas of garments and things like puffy curtains. The head is a large round ended egg shape. The tapered wooden handle is also a great form, and in very nice condition as well. Handles like this were designed to fit into a stand or base of wood or metal much like a hardie hole on an anvil so that it could be used in the upright fixed position. Nice!
