Scissor Handle Patented Fluting Tongs / Iron  These fluting tongs were patented Dec. 12, 1871 by J.W. McKee & Co. and so marked.  The heads are held on with removable pins, and one of the iron collector books pictures these tongs from another collection with elongated heads, so apparently they were meant to be interchangeable.  Unusual and tough to find!

Wooden Patented Plaiters  Plaiters like this are a thing of wonder.  I am not going to take the time to explain the exact workings of these unusual devices, but the wonder is that the lady of the house had the time to actually use this or one of the many other variants that exist.  They must have been considered an important part of the housekeeping regimen back when, and I will bet there was rejoicing in the backroom or bedroom when they faded from everyday use.
