K
& D #1 Electric Motor
This is an interesting and nice condition example of a small battery powered
electric motor. This type of motor was sold out of the back of magazines
and were used as toys and demonstrators. This marked example is in nice
condition, noting that the brushes are missing. It stands approx 3" tall.
K & D made these in a number of different sizes with this being their smallest.

Electric
Sewing Machine Motor w/ Rheostat This
set-up reminds me of the situation I am in where I am being sent a black box
to make it possible to receive TV signals after they change them to all digital.
Electricity was here, but what was the housewife to do with her trusty hand
crank or treadle sewing machine. Upgrade of course.
These motors were offered to the consumer who had treadle or hand crank sewing machines and had invested a lot of money in them and would not buy one of the new fangled electrics, but wanted to keep up with the new technology and neighbors who did. I had one of these once that was patented in the 1880's and bolted to the machine instead of the wheel and crank, this version is more universal and has a pulley that would run against the wheel to get things going. From the looks of it and the condition the wife decided to stick with hand or foot power. Overall it is in great condition, and I suspect the wife just continued to treadle away and this sat in the closet for 75 years.

Franklin Electric
Sewing Machine Motor
This was pulled off of a Sears Franklin Sewing Machine.
I will now probably get 5 emails asking what their Franklin Sewing machine is
worth. Cute.

Electric
Quack Machine
I suppose it was reasonable to think electric shocks had a
therapeutic effect way back when. There were certainly a lot of them in
use and patented to cure the ills of the world. The tingling sensation
would certainly convince the patient that something was going on.
Chiropractors are still pushing the idea so there might be something to it,
or not. The probes and paddles are stored in the lid. The battery or
other magical stuff was in the base.

Edison
Electric Light Bulb
Shortly after Thomas Edison introduced the first
incandescent light bulb reproductions of them began appearing and have been
offered for sale ever since. I have had them as late as the 80's coming
out of museum shops, and heard of ones dating back to within 25 years of their
introduction that were offered at different expositions back near the turn of
the century. This one dates from the 1933 Worlds Fair.
