Sewing Clamp in Cloth Covered Wooden Case
What a wonderful
and rare piece. This sewing clamp is a precision piece of workmanship.
The owner indicated he though it was Swedish, but there is no marks on it.
It has been crafted from machined rather than cast parts, and each element is
a different material in a different finish. All of the pieces fit together
and compliment each other, and the overall effect is wonderful. The Shagreen
covered case is in excellent condition, and it is monogrammed with the owner
or beloved's initials S. M. G. Was it a gift? Or a special order
from a member of the royal family to a master craftsman? We can only guess
about that, but we know this is a really special piece that will be a highlight
in the collection of finely crafted pieces.

Feature Patented Antique Sewing Clamp
This unusual sewing clamp
has a whole list of features and is English. There is patent information and
a location on the top of the body. The buttonhole cutter is also marked
Patent and there is a name on the circular clamp near the thimble holder as
well. It looks like it says "The Empire", but the stamp is weak.
In addition to a spring loaded plunger type clamp to hold the fabric, this sewing
tool also sports a thimble holder, a slot for scissors or another tool,
a circular loop / clamp for ???, a slide out button hole cutter, and a pin cushion.
It is about 6 1/2" tall, and the pin cushion is about 1 1/2" across. It
is in super original condition. A very nice and unusual addition for the
collection!!

Iron Sewing Clamp / Pincushion w/ Plunger Clamp
This is a
simpler version of the above sewing clamp that has a plunger clamp and an oval
pin cushion. The fabric is original and in nice condition. The original
black finish is very nice. It is about 4" tall, and the pin cushion
is about 1 1/2 x 2". Very unusual.

Nickel Plated Sewing Clamp w/ Pincushion Spool Holder & Plunger Clamp
The beauty in collecting sewing clamps is that the varieties on
the same theme you can find are near endless. This is similar to the others
on this page but different. It has the added feature of a spool pin, and
it is nickel plated. I have been looking for them for over 20 years and
have been all over the country and yet do not recall ever seeing this one before.
It is very nicely done, and yet very utilitarian. It is about 4
1/2" tall, and the pin cushion about 3/4" diameter. All original, right,
and ready for the collection.

F. W. M. & S. Cast Iron Swing Gate Sewing Clamp
This swinging
sewing clamp is larger than the typical small swinging sewing clamp you regularly
see. I imagine it was for larger work like quilts, or even sails
or tarps. It stands over 5 1/2" tall and is a very substantial piece.
It works like a champ as well.

Iron Antique Swinging Sewing Clamps
This swinging sewing
clamp is the one in the middle. It is about 4" tall. It is
dwarfed by the one listed just above in size and weight. The body is cast
iron and nicely decorated. A nice little sewing clamp that can be found
in different finishes and with slightly different casting decorations.
A very simple and utilitarian sewing clamp that is American and dates from the
end of the 19th century.

Cast Iron Antique Swinging Sewing Clamp
The swinging sewing
clamp on the right is about 4 1/2" tall and just a tad bigger than the one just
above. If I have seen the one above 50 times in the last 20 years, I can
honestly say I have never seen this one before with its different casting, and
ribbed decoration. A nice little clamp.
