Antique Lace Making Tools

Most of the sewing related antiques you will find on this and our other Sewing Accessories pages originated from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, and were part three large and diverse antique sewing collections we are handling on consignment.  This is the first time most of these pieces have been out on the market in many years.

Tatting Shuttles6 Antique / Vintage Tatting Shuttles  Tatting had nearly become a lost art, but thankfully has recently been revived and is being re-learned by a small group of new enthusiasts.  It is truly amazing to see someone skillfully perform this handwork technique.  The tatting shuttle is a simple and elegant needlework tool.  Here are five different lovely examples.

Antique Lace LucetWooden Hand Held Lace Loom / Lucet  This beautiful and delicate tool was referred to as a lucet or lyre.  It measures about 3 1/4" high.  The two horns or prongs were held between the lady's thumb and forefinger and fine thread or hair was skillfully laced or twisted to produce a chain or knotted "stitch".  These are extremely rare and this example is in excellent condition.
