Most of the sewing related antiques you will find on this and our other Sewing Accessories pages originated from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, and were part two large and diverse antique sewing collections we are handling on consignment. This is the first time most of these pieces have been out on the market in many years.

Unusual Pairs of Antique Scissors
These four pairs of scissors will make a great start or added addition to
an antique scissor or sewing tool collection. The large pair on the left
is patented and I imagine the patent applies to the screw mechanism that allows
them to be taken apart and also lets you adjust the tension between the cutting
blades. It's a great idea as I have had a lot of scissors that could have
used this feature---and have you ever tried sharpening a pair when they are
together? But we don't have to worry about that anymore---nowadays we just
throw them out and buy a new pair. The ornate brass pair has a decorative
sheathe to cover the blades. The next pair are a fairly simple pair of
buttonhole cutting scissors. The last pair are delicate tiny steel
scissors.

Large
Scissors / Sewing Shears with Elaborate Handles and Sheathe
These are a gorgeous pair of scissors that measure about 12" long.
I cannot find a maker name on them, but they are a beautiful example of antique
cutlery and obviously by a skilled craftsperson. The elaborate handles are
cast brass. The matching sheathe appears to be leather and trimmed in the
same cast brass as the handles. They are in really nice condition and
display really well!

Unusual
Button Hole Scissors
These are a nice example of this style of scissors. There are
literally hundreds of different versions of these that can be found, from very
simple to very intricate. They are in really nice condition
and display really well!
