Antique & Vintage Sewing Accessories
Thread Holders / Thread Stands
Page 1
Most of the sewing related antiques you will find on this and our other Sewing Accessories pages originated from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, and were part two large and diverse antique sewing collections we are handling on consignment. This is the first time most of these pieces have been out on the market in many years.
Antique Victorian Thread Holding Box This combination pincushion / thread holder / sewing box is about 6" tall and 7" across. You would lift the pin cushion out to reveal spool pins and then have the thread come out the various bone or ivory gimlets on the front. Note there is one decorative tower missing in the back left corner. Otherwise it is very nice and a period piece. It looks to be made of pine and mahogany. Click for Pic
Good + ......... $95.00 EJ-1375
19th Century Victorian Multi Tiered Thread Holding Stand This revolving thread stand is really nice. Note the acorn finial on the top. It has a walnut base and fabric pin holder built into it. The two 5 point star thread platforms lift off and / or revolve. It is just over 9" tall and the base is about 5 1/2" across. A really fine example! Click for Pic
Very Good ......... $95.00 EJ-1381
19th Century Victorian Walnut Revolving Thread Holding Stand This revolving thread stand is very nice. It has a walnut base and fabric pin holder / cushion built into the top. There is a second type of wood used to add contrast. It is a little over 6" tall and the same across the widest part. It is a very nice example and well made. Different! Click for Pic
Good ......... $75.00 EJ-1387
Quarter Sawn Oak Arts & Crafts Thread Stand / Box This is a really nice piece. It has spindles to hold 6 spools of thread on top, underneath the pincushion. And it has a provision for storing spools of thread, or any sewing or needlework tools, in the drawer, and then you could run the ends of the thread out the top through any of three openings at the corners. There is a thimble holder in the fourth corner. The box measures about 8" x 8". The grain of the quarter sawn oak is really nice and bold. The dust is included at no charge. Walnut Stepped Base Thread Stand / Pincushion The stepped base of this spool holder is a nice contrast to the round flat top. The period pincushion in the checkerboard pattern fabric slips onto the center spindle. Click for Pic
Very Good ......... $35.00 EJ-1281
Walnut Sewing Box / Thread Stand / Pincushion This antique spool holder is constructed in the fashion of a larger piece of furniture. It measures just 4 1/2" wide by 4 1/2" deep by 7" tall. It is extremely well made with attention to detail including the rounded front of the drawer and the heads of the spool pins. The number 307 is impressed into the underside of the bottom in a manner similar to what I have seen on period pieces of furniture. Click for Pic Click for Pic
Very Good ......... $75.00 EJ-1301
Early Inlaid Walnut Thread Stand / Pincushion This antique spool holder is nicely crafted with inlaid strips of contrasting wood, a rounded front drawer, and spool pins made from unusual nails that have rounded raised heads, which I believe are original to it. The box portion measures about 4 1/2" square, and it stands 7" tall to the top of the pincushion. Click for Pic
