 Antique Tool Boxes & Displays

Carpenters Tool Box   This is a nice looking and well made carpenters tool box with 3 sliding trays.  I would guess it dates from just after the turn of the century given the vintage of the tools found inside, the construction of the chest, and other details.  It measures just over 38" long and stands about 18" tall.  The majority of the tools that remain came with the box and it has not been altered other than to take out a set of chisels that were held in the lid, a set of auger bits which have been listed elsewhere separately, and a few other misc. pieces.   There is a carpenters log book in here from the 20's that was original to the box.  I want to sell this as a unit, and there are a some nice tools remaining, but if you see something you want separately we can pull it out.

Merrick's Double Drum Spool Cabinet   Spool cabinets come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but the Merrick Double Drum model is one of the rarest and most desirable of all.  These could be found in Country Stores and Dry Goods shops throughout the country back near the turn of the century.  I imagine the larger and finer shops had larger and more elaborate displays like this, and the smaller less prosperous shops had the simpler single or double drawer models that you see from time to time.

The finish is original and pretty good.  The tag saying this was patented in 1897 is original and nice.  The top knobs are replacements and I imagine got lost when this was being used as an end table.  The glass on the front left with the stenciling is original, and the other front panel is a replacement made from Plexi.  Both glass panels on the back side are missing, but these can be had for a reasonable cost.  The mirror is original and OK with some streaking noted. The Merrick stencil on the front is very nice, and the one in the rear is just OK.  There are some chips and dings along the bottom edge of the wood skirt, but it is minor.  The dimensions are 24" tall, x 32" long, and 18" across the top.

Carpenters Box w/ Multi Sliding Drawers  I have owned a lot of carpenters boxes over the years and this is by far one of the nicest.  It is unusual to find them in this condition, and this configuration.  It has three trays, and in each of the top two trays, there are more sliding trays, making for near endless places to hide little treasures and favorite tools.    It has a great look, color, and is dovetailed at the corners.    click for pic     click for pic     click for pic       click for pic       click for pic      click for pic      click for pic        click for pic      click for pic
