Survey Chain / Measure w/ Level in Handle This
is an interesting piece. I am not sure if it is surveying related, or, but
it sure looks like a surveyors chain, and the level in
one handle indicates it was supposed to be held level if used on a
slope. It appears it is made of some sort of fruitwood, and each leg
measures XX. Laid out it measures XX. It has no
visible increment marks, or makers name or other ID. It is very nicely
constructed, and damage free. The
consignor of this unusual rule has had it over 50 years and could never
figure out exactly what it was for despite extensive research and

Long Sykes Hydrometer w/ 2 Ivory Slide Rules / Proof Rules This unusual set is English and for testing different
liqueurs and alcoholic mixtures for their relative
strength. The rules are nice with just minimal warpage or
discoloration. The thermometer is mounted on an ivory slab as well and
is OK. All of the weights are present for the float as well.
This is an upgraded model and these can be found with just one rule, or with
the rules made of boxwood as well. It is a nice set in nice condition.
