Robinson Patent Eagle Mfg Co Bridge Square   The condition is super and near new.  This early and unusual square is an interesting design and very hard to find.  The blades are all  nice and both the patent info and the Eagle Name are clear and bold.  95% or so of the finish remains on the cross bar.  Rare and desirable    click for Pic      click for Pic     click for Pic      click for Pic

Patented J. W. Murphy of Alva Ok. Framing or Stair Square  Different, and the only one I have ever owned.  The condition is very nice. The patent date looks to be AUG 4TH 1903.  I would need to see the patent papers or have the instruction sheet to figure out what you were supposed to do with it.  I suppose it could be for stair work as well.   Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic

Patented Jan 30th 1900 Smith's Patent Automatic Roof Framing Square.  The overall condition is good and the pics do not do the etchings and engraved blades justice.  It says automatic, but looks like you might have to know something to get it to work.   I set it down on a board and nothing happened in that sense.  Note in the pic the bump in the casting at the end.  It is on both sides and is proper to reinforce the casting where there is a cutout to pull the blade up.  It also created a weak spot, and there is a hairline crack that follows the bump on one side as I have shown.

In the pic above the blade on the right opens to a 45.  It is marked Hip Rafter Bevel Cut on one side, and Jack Rafter Bevel cut on the other.  The long blade on the left is marked Plumb cut on both sides in the same saw like etching in a banner.  The slotted blade is unmarked.   Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic

Pat. Pending Sacramento Roof Framing Square  This is an unusual idea that  I doubt made it far from this area after it was introduced.  A great idea and probably very accurate in concept, but not exactly made to withstand the rigors of daily use on the jobsite. Note that this one appears to have never been used

At first look it looks like one of those complicated tailors squares, but the roofing information and location are clearly stamped into the legs of each of the pieces.  It was found here in Ca over 30 years ago at a local flea market, and I have never seen another or even pieces of one.  This example is mint and unused.  It has been stored in its original box since it was made and looks it.  Be sure to check out the pic of it assembled and ready to go and then wonder what the guy was thinking about.     Click for Pic        Click for Pic

Roof Framing Calculating Chart   This is one of the silliest ideas I have ever seen in the tool or calculator realm. It is a roofing calculator / chart to help you get those rafters and birds mouth cuts right on your next project.  The little snap clasps  to close it up have the backward swastika logo which was Buffum Tools logo for a while and is known a symbol for good luck.  The user of this would need that and two more people to hold it open while trying to figure out what to do next.  Check out the other pics.  It is so tightly wound on the dowel it is like a window shade and it keeps trying to roll back up.  Inside are plenty of instructions, some testimonials, and an addendum for an error in the chart. Imagine how long this would have lasted had it been used.    Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic
