Beading Planes & Routers
2
Coach Beaders / Beading Planes / Scrapers These are shop made and very nice examples of a versatile and
useful tool in the hands of the right user. Both have a center fence used
on a groove or as a fence on the edge of a board. On either side of the
fence the cutter is exactly the same to facilitate working in either direction,
or around curves. The top one has 6 different bead profiles cut into it
and they all look good. Each profile is separated by the rectangular notch you
see to assure proper positioning when changing profiles. A very nice tool.
The bottom one is set up the same way, but has only 5 different profiles on 2 separate cutters. Neither are marked with a manufactures or owners name. Click for Pic Click for Pic

French Coach
Router This form of router or plane is most commonly referred to as a
French coach makers router and it was meant as a compliment to the fine work
they produced and the quality of their tools. This is a nice if somewhat simple example with no
aux fence as the more complicated versions have. The way the cutter is
held in place is great and the curved and formed steel wedge doing that is
great. The height of the cut is adjustable by removing or
inserting washers or shims under the steel rub plate. The escapement hole
for the shavings is well done. It is a very showy piece and will be a nice
addition to the router collection.

Windsor
Patent Beader Windsor beaders were patented by two fellows from Windsor Conn. Mr Orlando
Williams, and Lawrence Poole were issued 2 patents in 1885 for this design and
that information is clearly stamped into the ebonized frame of the top. This
style is usually referred to as the second model of these beaders.
There is only one profile of each cut and there are 4 relatively
large bead profiles.

Coachmakers
Router This looks like a Preston to me, but it is unmarked. It looks
to be a very versitle and useful tool. The cutter seems to be a
replacement or modified as it does not engage the depth adjuster as it looks
like it should. Click for Pic
