Union
# 37A "Jenny" Transitional Plane This size transitional plane
is the hardest of all to find in the Stanley line of transitional planes.
Stanley's version turns up only occasionally and I have never
seen one by one of their competitors. Union Tool Co.'s plane line was
bought out by Stanley in 1920. In looking at a 1905 Union catalog it is
noted that the other transitional planes they offered do not have the A designation, and only the
37 size is given that number in the catalog.
This one is in very nice condition. The cutter is full length and properly marked. The sole is full thickness and just show minimal scratches in it. A rare plane. Nice! Click for view Click for view Click for view Click for view

Gage
Patent Wood Bodied Plane In the time honored tradition of get rid of
the competition Stanley bought the the popular and successful Gage Tool Co of
Vineland New Jersey back in the early 1900's. This is a very nice later Stanley version
of a Gage plane made by Stanley. The
nose is marked G26, and the cutter holder is marked Stanley. The cutter
was rusty and the marking on it is nearly unreadable after I cleaned it. The
rest of the plane is a very nice plane as these are usually all beat up.
Super overall condition.

Gage Patent Wood Bodied Planes. In the time honored tradition of get rid
of the competition Stanley bought the the popular and successful Gage Tool Co of
Vineland New Jersey to eliminate that nagging problem nipping at their sales
from NJ.. Gage pulled the patent
for his idea in the late 1880's and sold the entire line in 1919 to Stanley
after a pretty good run. His planes are relatively common, and frequently
found in well used condition testifying to their popularity. After buying them
out Stanley produced the same line under their name for a few years, added a
line of iron bodied planes to compete with the Sargent Auto-Set and then dropped
it altogether right around WWII.
These two planes predate Stanley's purchase, and are marked with Gage #'s only on the rear. The longer one is marked #16 and is 20" long. Stanley never produced one in this size according to John Walters information. It has patent info on the cutters self setting feature that the other one does not. Its front knob is a distinctly different shape as well, and I assume it is an earlier production model than the shorter one pictured. It is in very nice condition and the handle is not damaged as is so often the case with these. There is one small chip up on the front toe on the side.
Left #16 Excellent ..... $150.00

The smaller one is marked # 4 1/2 on the back end. In the Stanley line this size with the slight razee style is the hardest to find size of the entire series they produced. I assume this was true for the Gage line as well. The cutter is 2 1/4, and the body measures 10 1/4 x 3 1/4". The condition is great, and it shows just nominal signs of use. There is one small chip in the sole Take note of the pic of the top of the handle where the plate is stamped with additional info and the plane makers local, Vineland, something I have not seen before on Gage planes.
