Antique Extendable Leg Wooden TripodAntique Extendable Leg Wooden Tripod  This tripod is unmarked as far as I can see.  It would be easy to identify in the field given the colors the previous owner decided to paint this.  Note the long post style of the leg locking nuts.  Also note how the legs are a single split rod.  A bit different from the norm.  The head measures approx. 3 3/4" and  has 12 TPI.  According to the chart published by Robert Parrish of www.antiquesurveying.com  this would probably be a Queen tripod.

2 Johnson Head Plane Table Tripods2 Johnson Head Plane Table Tripods  The one on the left is a NOS K & E  fixed split leg design  It looks to have never been used and has just minor scuffs from storage.  Under the protective cap is a 5/8" male threaded stud that is the standard size to fit most plane table fittings.

On the right is a miniature extendable leg explorer model.  From the look of the fittings I believe it was made by Gurley, but it is unmarked as far as I can see  This must have been for use far in the field as I have never seen one this light duty and delicate.  It too looks to be NOS.  Both of these tripods are in excellent condition and ready for use or display.

On the right is a heavy duty extendable leg model.  I believe it was made by K & E, but it is unmarked as far as I can see.   The cap where a name might have been is missing  This looks to be from the 60's or so and is a heavy duty / heavy tripod.  It has the standard 5/8" male stud to affix most any plane table to.  It too looks to be close to NOS.  Both of these tripods are in excellent condition and ready for use or display.

K & E / Keuffel & Esser Surveyors Plane TableK & E / Keuffel & Esser  Surveyors Plane Table  This plane table measures 24 x 30 and saw little actual use.  The fruitwood stain is original.  This has not been refinished.  The table itself is not marked, but the cloth case has a K & E label on it. The original carry case is also marked with the last owners name.  It is very nice and ready for use. These were used in the field with different style alidades when mapping or surveying and drawing at the same time.

Note: I do have alidades from the same era listed for sale on another page..

K & E / Keuffel & Esser Wooden Tripods2 Wooden Tripods by K & E / Keuffel & Esser and Lietz   The one on the left is a near NOS K & E extendable leg design  It looks to have been used just a few times and then stored.  It still has nearly all of its original finish and has just minor scuffs from storage.  It is marked 3 1/2 x 8 TPI as the size which is the standard for most later instruments.

On the right is a heavy duty split fixed leg model made with round dowels.  It is also a 3 1/2 x 8 TPI.   It has a Lietz cap on it, but I believe it was made by K & E.   It looks to be from the 60's or so and is a heavy duty / heavy tripod that has a great look to it.   Both of these tripods are in excellent condition and ready for use or display.

Wooden Surveyors Compass / Instrument Staff2 Surveyors Wooden Jacob Staffs for Compass / Surveying Instruments    The wooden Jacob Staff on the left or top is a NOS marked Lietz that was probably made by K & E.  It still has nearly all of its original finish and has just minor scuffs from storage. It is a tapered 6 or 8 sided pole with a tapered tip waiting to be sized to fit your compass or other surveying instrument.  Very nice!!

On the right is a round pole marked Dietzgen with a decorative tapered top mount that has never been sized and is waiting for that instrument you have to be fitted to it.  Either of these would be the perfect piece for historical reenactments or similar uses.  Both of these wooden surveying Jacob staffs are in excellent / NOS condition and ready for use or display.

Gurley Expedition / Explorer TripodExpedition / Explorer Tripod  This is a nice condition almost miniature tripod that was made for the smallest transits or levels.  The size looks to be 2 7/8" x 12 TPI which a chart I saw indicated it was for Ainsworth instruments.   Other than missing 2 thumbscrews on 2 leg clamps the condition is very nice.

Keuffel & Esser Extendable Leg Transit TripodKeuffel & Esser Extendable Leg Transit Tripod  The thread size for this tripod looks to be  3 5/8 x 12.  Robert Parishes chart on thread sizes for K & E instruments lists two sizes of 3.62, and 3.64 x 12 TPI  I believe it is for a K & E because of the design of the head.   It is unmarked with any name though.

Mining Instrument TripodShort Tripod For Use In Mines  This fixed leg tripod stands just 41 or so inches tall.  It is factory, or original.  Tripods this size were meant for use in mines or other locals with low overhead.  The head measures just over 4" and is threaded both on the outer edge, and has a threaded inner hole.  It looks to be 18 TPI which I believe would make it a Gurley/  It is a rare piece and has not been cut down.  It has a nice form..
