2 Johnson Head Plane Table Tripods2 Johnson Head Plane Table Tripods  The one on the left is a NOS K & E  fixed split leg design  It looks to have never been used and has just minor scuffs from storage.  Under the protective cap is a 5/8" male threaded stud that is the standard size to fit most plane table fittings.

On the right is a miniature extendable leg explorer model.  From the look of the fittings I believe it was made by Gurley, but it is unmarked as far as I can see  This must have been for use far in the field as I have never seen one this light duty and delicate.  It too looks to be NOS.  Both of these tripods are in excellent condition and ready for use or display.

Wooden Surveyors Compass / Instrument Staff2 Surveyors Wooden Jacob Staffs for Compass / Surveying Instruments    The wooden Jacob Staff on the left or top is a NOS marked Lietz that was probably made by K & E.  It still has nearly all of its original finish and has just minor scuffs from storage. It is a tapered 6 or 8 sided pole with a tapered tip waiting to be sized to fit your compass or other surveying instrument.  Very nice!!

On the right is a round pole marked Dietzgen with a decorative tapered top mount that has never been sized and is waiting for that instrument you have to be fitted to it.  Either of these would be the perfect piece for historical reenactments or similar uses.  Both of these wooden surveying Jacob staffs are in excellent / NOS condition and ready for use or display.

Gurley Expedition / Explorer TripodExpedition / Explorer Tripod  This is a nice condition almost miniature tripod that was made for the smallest transits or levels.  The size looks to be 2 7/8" x 12 TPI which a chart I saw indicated it was for Ainsworth instruments.   Other than missing 2 thumbscrews on 2 leg clamps the condition is very nice.

Keuffel & Esser Extendable Leg Transit TripodKeuffel & Esser Extendable Leg Transit Tripod  The thread size for this tripod looks to be  3 5/8 x 12.  Robert Parishes chart on thread sizes for K & E instruments lists two sizes of 3.62, and 3.64 x 12 TPI  I believe it is for a K & E because of the design of the head.   It is unmarked with any name though.

Mining Instrument TripodShort Tripod For Use In Mines  This fixed leg tripod stands just 41 or so inches tall.  It is factory, or original.  Tripods this size were meant for use in mines or other locals with low overhead.  The head measures just over 4" and is threaded both on the outer edge, and has a threaded inner hole.  It looks to be 18 TPI which I believe would make it a Gurley.  It is a rare piece and has not been cut down.  It has a nice form..

Collapsible Leg Tripod / Surveying / Surveyors TripodCollapsible Leg Tripod / Surveying / Surveyors Tripod  This tripod is very nice.  I am not sure what it fits.  As can be seen in the pics it had a 5/8" center screw mount that was cut off.  This tripod would be another perfect candidate for a lamp or other repurpose.  It can be adjusted to stand nearly 70" tall.  All the fitting to tighten the legs are here and proper.   Nice!!

Collapsable Leg Tripod / Surveying / Surveyors TripodCollapsible Leg Tripod / Surveying / Surveyors Tripod  This small heavy duty tripod is very nice.  Note how it has folding telescoping arms that lock the legs together to give it extra rigidity / stability when set up.  It also has a bubble level built into the center of the head (broken).  From the construction I assume it is military.  The head measures approx 2 15/16 x 10 TPI.  Not sure what it originally was intended to hold.  It looks great when all set up.   Another Steampunk / repurpose candidate.    Nice!!

Heavy Duty Collapsible Leg Metal TripodHeavy Duty Collapsible Leg Metal Tripod This special use heavy duty tripod is all metal and weighs approx 50 lbs.  It has a built in leg lock to keep it rigid when set up.  It stands approx 40" tall as seen and can extend to about 70" tall.  The mounting post is approx 1" dia.   It looks as if it was set up outside semi permanently at some point as the inner sliding legs are quite rusty and pitted.  It works as it should and the legs extend and lock well.  This would be a perfect candidate for an industrial light set-up for that Steampunk / industrial design look.   Different.!!

Collapsible Leg Tripod for Surveying / Surveyors InstrumentCollapsible Leg Tripod for Surveying / Surveyors Instrument  This unusual collapsible leg tripod has an unusual mount design that is / was protected by a patent.  The head is marked Patented Feb 24th 1891. There was a patent granted to the instrument maker Soltmann on that date, and this style tripod is part of the description.  Basically it is a quick mount design where an instrument with a leveling head would attach as a unit by merely dropping it into place.    It looks to be hardly used.  Very Nice!!
