Most of the vintage tools found here and on the chisel page will including carving tools, antique woodworking gouges, and antique chisels found will be suitable for use in various woodworking trades ranging from timber framing, to furniture making, or inclusion in any antique tool collection.

Antique woodworking edge tools, such as chisels, gouges and slicks from makers such as Addis, D. R. Barton, Swan, Herring, Taylor, Buck, LI & J White, Wilkinson, Witherby,  Maier, as well as Stanley chisels will be found under the proper headings.

Today's craftspeople and serious users oftentimes prefer vintage & antique American & English tools produced by quality makers of edge tools such as Swan, Stanley, Jennings, Buck, Witherby, Pexto, Wilkinson, Addis, Taylor and many others.  Names like these ring with nostalgia and fond memories of the old days when quality was the standard.  These vintage tools are popular not only because of the superior quality, but often times these antique edge tools can be had in fine condition for a fraction of what is being charged today for edge tools of lesser quality.

With a bit of knowledge and judicious shopping you can outfit a toolbox or shop workbench with a array of quality antique woodworking tools at a reasonable price and get full value for your dollar.

Adzes

The idea of a tool used as an Adze have been known since the beginning of tool making.  Carving out and shaping pieces of wood are about timeless.  Over time their forms have changed to meet the needs of different users.  There are curved Gutter Adzes, lipped adzes, polled adzes used for driving nails or spikes, railroad adzes which are typically larger and heavier, hand adzes for chair or furniture making and more.

  • Plumb Broad Ax
  • Double Spike Ice Tool?

Antique Hollow Augers & Spoke Pointers

*** Click Heading to see Items ***

These interesting and versatile tools are used in chair making and the furniture Hollow Auger making trades as well as by wheel makers and other woodworkers.  There were literally hundreds of different designs patented and offered over the years, and there is even a book on the subject that was written.  Some are favored by users because of superior design, quality and usability.  But there are also strange and unusual patented designs that would seem to be only suitable for the tool collector as I do not think they would hold up or be as accurate as say the Wood's Patent hollow auger which is so in demand.    Take a look whatever your need, user or collector.

  • 4 Spoke or Dowel Pointers Large & Small
