Antique & Collectible Tool
Sales Pages

Many of Antique & Collectible Tools offered for sale on this website are being sold on consignment from one very large collection that was begun back in theStanley #21 Transitional Smooth Plane 60's. I am also selling antique tools from several smaller tool collections where we are helping collectors, owners or their heirs sell.  These consignors recognize the benefits of the consignment sales approach to marketing their antique tools and collectibles.  Those benefits are discussed in more detail on different pages whose links can be found in the left column. We welcome your inquiries in regard to having your antique tools and other antiques listed for sale on our site.

The largest antique tool collection we are selling from was begun in the 60's with the original owner dying in the mid 90's the day after I sold him a truck load of tools at the ripe old age of 97.  He was a pioneer in antique tool collecting and old tool research field.  He broke new ground here in California being the first antique tool collector to offer flea market dealers & tool sellers $100 or more for individual pieces back in the 70's and 80's.  I moved into his territory in the early 80's and met him shortly afterward.  His standing offer and relationship with the local flea market dealers and antique dealers made it near impossible to buy tools in front of him at flea markets or local shows.  Most all of the regular sellers held back their recent finds for him and he bought most of it.  It could be a $5.00 item, but they still waited to show their tools to him when he arrived in the late morning. He was one of the major reasons I moved my antique tool buying and selling operation to the East Coast in the late 80's thru the 90's, coming back to CA only in the winter to sell many of my new finds to him and other west coast collectors.

The collection he amassed was broad and extensive.  He cataloged over 15,000 tools he bought.  He did die happy as that last load was a pretty good one.  A lot of these tools have my name on his tags on them in the form of the inventory tags from 15-25 years ago when I was originally selling tools to this collector.  There are some great pieces, and as with all collections, some not so great.  He bought it all, and changed his focus every few years.  In the beginning he focused on primitives, he then focused on specific areas like coopers tools, or leather tools, and then moved on to something new every year or so.  Later Stanley tools became the focus and he tried to get it all, not just one level, or square, but every variation of every one, even multiples.  He wanted it all and bought most everything that came his way.

TAKE NOTE:  This single collector bought and catalogued over 15,000 antique tools during his tool collecting lifetime and he did not get to take any with him.

Please Note: If you have quality antique tools you would like to sell on consignment, or outright, contact me and perhaps we can work out an arrangement for your tools as well.

Tool Sales Pages

I have recently taken on consignment three new and different small collections of antique tools   Given that these tools range from the rare and unusual, to parts and pieces, I am going to add a  new tool sale page to accommodate them.  The new pages will  be BARGAIN BIN / SALE PAGE  and the link will be found on the Misc Tool Sale Page.

Better early woodworking tools & planes by makers such as  Stanley Rule & Level Co., Sargent Tool co., Millers Falls Tool Co, Winchester, Keen Kutter or Simmons Hardware, Ohio Tool Co., Union Tool, Sandusky and many others will be found both on the Misc Plane page and the Stanley Plane pageIncluded in these listings will be a good sampling of hard to find patented planes by makers such as Walker, Rodiers, Birmingham Tool Co, Phillips, Davis Tool co., Steers, Leonard Bailey and many others.

Antique or collectible farm related antiques, vintage wrenches, including implement & cutout wrenches,  quick-adjust wrenches, odd-ball patented wrenches, and the rest can be found on the Farm / Wrench page. If interested please be sure to go there if that is what you are looking for.

Other vintage woodworking tools such as antique saws and drills, antique squares, bevels, levels and more will be accessible through specific links in the left hand column and can be found by clicking the appropriate link in the left hand column.

Condition of Antique Tools

I try to be conservative in rating the condition of tools listed for sale. I will be Center Wheel Plow Planehappy to answer specific questions about any.  A condition chart we try to adhere to can be found at the bottom of this page.

A lot of the tools from the 15,000 tool collection were enhanced and or protected with a coat of lacquer by the previous owner.  If you have been at this long enough you will remember that this practice was not only acceptable but encouraged to preserve and protect those early tool finds.
